Las Cruces Lame defense
I am a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist. I have heard the lame defense that a "fetus" is not a "baby" ad nauseum over the years. The argument bears on just what is being destroyed in an abortion. I can tell you from first-hand experience. What is deliberately destroyed in every abortion regardless of gestational age is that woman's son or daughter.
Can a pregnancy threaten a mother's life? Certainly. Is abortion ever necessary to save women's lives in such circumstances? Virtually never. Prior to coming to Las Cruces seven years ago, I was faculty in a tertiary referral medical center in New York State where the sickest mothers were routinely transferred with the most severe complications of pregnancy, many of them life-threatening. Over a period of eight years I saved the lives of hundreds of seriously ill mothers by performing pre-term deliveries to end their pregnancies. The number
of children I had to deliberately kill in all those years was zero. You have every right to support abortion on demand. Please don't kid yourself about what it is that you support. ANTHONY LEVATINO, MD, JD
