You're overseas, and someone comes up to you and asks you where you are from. You say your an American. The question is, are you proud to say that you are an American? Simple Yes or No.

Funny story about that...Was in the Tower of London with wifey and got chit chattin with one of the beefeaters...He asks us where we are from and we respond "Florida"...He's like..Yeah...I've been there before...Where disney is...I forget the name of the town...but it starts with a "k"...

My wife goes "Kissimmee"

He planted one right on her.

HILARIOUS.

I actually make a point to say I'm "from the United States" or I'm "a United States citizen"....Never "American", as Canadians and Mexicans and brazilians and venezuelans etc etc are "Americans" as well....Of course, our country's citizens are pretty hardcore that we are the only ones in existence. What's a continent anyway?

I answered no, not because I'm ashamed to be an American, but I consider it irrelevant. Being an American makes me no better or worse than anyone else. I hate the concept of patriotism. I'm one of those people who dreamed about a single international law and governing body. Unfortunately, the UN had poor leadership and allowed itself to become irrelevant.

If somebody were to ask me, I'd tell them. I'd probably make a joke about "voting for the other guy' too, though. I am ashamed of our leadership right now and ashamed of the attitude and ignorance of a lot of our population. Hoping that can change eventually.

And I’m proud to be an American (or not),
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died (who?),
who gave that right to me.

I'm glad to be a citizen of this country, but I am not glad to be represented by our government.

Exactly. I am proud to be from a great people. I am embarrassed and ashamed of the representation we give to the world through our government and policies.

I will be in Spain for a couple weeks in late May early June. Will I say I am American? Yes. I will say I am from the United States.

Always say it and always proud of it.;) "When you're the finest it's hard to be humble" (that was a slogan we used in the Marine Corps back in the 70's).
