I just switched my health plan

it saves my company a lot of money...but since i never go to Dr pay's off for me too, i think.

My major medical is still covered and that monthly premium is really low. for my smaller item's, i have a health savings account, where i put away money that gains interest and use it as I go, it's a cafeteria plan basically. Once i exceed 2800 a year in medical bills, all remaining is 100% covered. it's set up like a 401K. I dont have to use it for medical things, but if i do, i have to pay taxes on it...

sounds like way health care is going to go in future.

Plan is HORRIBLE for those who have unexpected stuff pop up in the first copuple of years.

I had that plan implemented at Domino's. There's covers 80% after $3000. Well, turns out that three weeks after the plan started I got a hip flexor and some ligiment junk that I had to do physical therapy for. Basically, I had about $150 in the account and had $3000 worth of bills after 2 months. It sucked. Now, imagine if I'm joe, only making $30K guy. That $3000 unexpected cost upfront could bury them.

These plans are a HUGE gamble in the early years. I am much happier paying a higher premium and knowing I am actually getting insured.

yeah it's got its downside

i havent been to a doctor in 12 years though. but my luck, as soon as i switch, i get killed.

I'm only making a marginal amount more then Joe, so....

Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO

I've paid about $2500 out of pocket altogether for all my cancer treatment since last July. That's Mayo Clinic treatment.

Great deal considering what I see some of the bills come back as.

I'm a health insurance "winner."

We have an HRA (Health Reimbursement Account) that basically pools some money so that everyone on the plan has $1000 (individual), $1500 (+spouse), or $2000 (family) that is covered completely every year. Once that level is reached, you pay full amount up to a certain value, depending on your plan. Once that value is reached, you pay coinsurance, 10% in network, 30% out of network, supposedly that's capped, too.

We've paid about $3000 so far this year between the copay and the intermediate after the HRA was used up. Actually, for this insurance cycle (July to June) we've actually paid about $3500, but that other $500 was before Jan 1. Come November or so, we'll get hit again probably because of a surgery...

Of course, without the ins., our bill would be in the neighborhood of probably $50,000. I don't like that neighborhood.
