A Nevada lawmaker is reacting to the Virginia Tech shootings saying once again that teachers should be allowed to carry concealed handguns.
Senator Bob Beers sponsored a bill, which would have done that in Nevada. He spoke with Eyewitness News Tuesday.
Beers posted a blog to his supporters Monday with an "I told you so" sort of message. His bill to allow teachers to carry guns failed, but now he says that the shootings will polarize both sides of the gun debate.
Sen. Beers, (R) Las Vegas, said, "If we could take all guns away this sort of thing wouldn't have happened. On the other hand, as we've seen in some countries that don't have ready access to guns, they just make bombs."
Beers also said he wasn't sure if he'll bring the bill back next session. There could be an outside chance of a resurrection for the armed teachers bill, but senate leadership will have to sponsor it.
