...just went online to rediscover the amount I shall be paying for my kid's college prepaid plan and learned that starting with all plans taken out after Jan. 31, 2007, the cost of the plan has increased....*drumroll please*...27%....assuming lump sum of course, it gets exponentially worse if you take out a payment plan. We aren't talking hundreds...We're talking thousands....Roughly 5 grand more...than less than a year ago.

I tire of this economy.

You're getting involved with the government in regards to your money. I don't think that this is ever a good idea.
Why not just invest that same amount of money on your own and it will be there when it's needed. Your kid may not want to go to college, you never know.

I've found that it takes baby steps like these to help a hopeless liberal realize that their so-called "friend" called The Nanny State is really the bully who likes to take your lunch money and knock up your sister.

Hogwash. The florida prepaid plan has been an exceptional plan for everyone that took advantage of it. The portability is simple-ie, if my child decided not to use it, I could pass it on to another beneficiary. And if you ever want your money back, you can have it back...There's a risk in that, of course, that I'll lose a better return on that money by that happening. Of course, my bet is that the governmental increases will dwarf anything I could dream of making off of 20 grand...A solid bet that many have taken advantage of over the years...And just to debunk Ed's "hopeless liberal" palabra...I'm just gonna go ahead and say that the piddly amount earned on 20 some grand over 18 years will be paltry because my hard work and excellence will make it immaterial. Hopeless indeed.

Just think, though, if yo ulock in your rates now, you get a guarenteed ROI of 27%. How awesome is that. By the time your kid goes to school, only those who have locked in the low prices now will be able to afford to get educated. Everyone else will be forced to get online degrees from Chindia.

The cost of education has been going up faster than the cost of healthcare for a long time. But yet if you ask people at random whether the government should provide more money to education most will say yes.

Q. What is the new tuition differential fee?
A. The tuition differential fee, approved by the 2007 Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Charlie Crist, allows research-level universities to raise revenue to hire additional faculty and academic advisors. The revenue “must be spent solely for improving the quality of direct undergraduate instruction and support services,” according to the law.

Jury duty would cost me 127% over the next 18 years. Cost-benefit says no soup for your idea.

To think...They take all that lotto money and supposedly put it into education in my state....27% in less than a year. What a bunch of whores. We have a republican governor. More con work by supposed CONservatives.

Y'all know this is tied back to this housing bullsh*t right? This is the kind of domino effect that makes me think that black hole vacuum into a deflationary iron maiden of pain is possible.

I lived in California when they first started their lottery. One third of the money in was supposed to go to the education budget. I knew some school teachers who said that in that first year they got increased funding. In every subsequent year, they decreased the money going to education by the amount they expected to get from the lottery.

Now you're talking out of both sides of your mouth. You're scared of inflation (rightly so IMO), but here you're worried about deflation. I don't get that. Deflation is the most easily solved problem especially when the federal government is running these crazy deficits.

Poor widduw CONservatives can't stop the liberal rain in a right-winged state? You make them sound like some people I can make my b*tches and take out to pasture. There's a joke here about concealed weapons and the like...

Somehow I think that there will be outrage at a 27% increase....thus creating a backwards fall...but yet, you and I know that the 27% is needed so these babylonians can attempt to pay the 100% increases in shelter cost. Deflationary back to the original start? Or deflation from 27% back to 5%? Not possible if the voters go ballistic? But then again, if it doesn't happen, housing goes down down down....Vicious circle. That's why I talk out of both sides of the...circular...opening in my face...That is what happens when facing a circular dilemna.

The most important thing to understand here is that I'm sh*t out of 5 grand because my kid was yanked out of my wife's crotch 11 months too late. This is a problem. But since I deal with so many boomers...One that I am becoming accustomed to. Any of you boomers want to tell me to suck it up yet?

Maybe I'll look for gainful employment at SIU for the simple satisfaction of your tax money paying for my 65 inch plasma and 20 ft bass fishing boat with the 200 HP motor hanging off the back. All in the name of "research".

Good times.

I would, but I'm not running for office.

Say the word EDUCATION and everyone gets all teary eyed.

I'm guessing that Florida has their own state chapter of the socialist NEA.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that he wouldn't blink an eye if the state of florida showed up at the white house and begged for a reprieve of a 27% increase in public bloodsucking. It would be like talking to the wall.

No c*ck and ball soup for you either.

I'll accept and concede this statement so long as you aren't one to find ways to...."avoid"...the income tax. If you do, it is baseless and you receive no recognition. You be the judge.

They were fairly inexpensive until now...Now UF is about $500 less a year than Virginia Tech in tuition...That's all we checked.
