I still find it disrespectful and I don't believe that the people who use the term know what you just posted. They either do it out of convenience or pc.

I used to put it on my old Christmas cards in college cuz I was lazy...A Christian Brothers University. Thought it was an abbreviation. Oops. Didn't know there were so many tightasses out there. Guess when you're on the inside and ignorant in your youth, you don't think too much about those things.

I find it disrespectful when people constantly poke fun at minorities...but I have overcome.

Yet 3 days before Christmas you decide to justify offending a minority of people.

Who? Christians? They're a minority? I'm offending them by posting what Xmas means? Do you even think before you post?

I justified offending a minority by posting what it means? That's rich. Ignorance must be bliss, huh?

Was not the purpose of the article to dispel the notion that "xmas" is taking Christ out of Christmas? Premised upon the reality that it is offensive to people. Yet here 3 days before Christmas you roll in touting Snopes as the authority on proper perspective. Snopes in turn cites Mr. Burnams "Dictionary of misinformation" book as source. The word Christmas is a Catholic term combining Christ and Mass. The Catholics do not define "xmas". Until the Pope says "xmas" is cool... its not cool.
You know it is offensive, proved by the effort to refute, yet you promote it.

My purpose was to post something I found interesting. I did not know that the term "Xmas" was (almost) as old as Christianity itself, did you? I hear all the time that it is offensive, I was under the impression that it was a term that was coined recently. However, that turned out not to be the case. Personally, I don't care. I mean, I find it interesting that people find it offensive but also wonder if they knew its origins? Forgive me, dear Kinja, for shedding light on a subject which I know many people did not know about (including me).
With that being said, Merry Xmas, Kinja. I hope that my Xmas greeting is sufficient enough for you to burn a cross in my honor.

As you cited, "xmas" is of Greek origin. The Greek church has historically not been favorable of the Catholics or protestants. It's easy to see "xmas" as negative.

Perhaps if you knew facts you wouldn't come across so stupid. Crosses are burned by protestants. Those same vermin who burn crosses, hate Catholics, and Jews, perhaps if you weren't so self centered you would see the others who share the ire of the Ku Klux Klan.

And yet, you follow their tenets so closely (with the exception of your love of Catholicism). Inshallah?

Mind you that if you were to name your pet swine Mohammed your head would roll. So I guess perhaps you should understand the level that many religions would go to punish someone who dissed their god.

Point taken. However, again, when I read it I thought it interesting.
