View Full Version : Moroms and Mitt Romney
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2005/0509.sullivan1.html
I even though I am a religious-buff, I never quite understood Moromism. I did get the Book of Moromism and I watch HBO's Big Love (:p ) However, I have to admit, I haven't been able to wrap my brain around it. Any Moroms on here? Anybody have a clue?
Having stated that, I really do not think Mitt Romney is a GOP contender AT ALL. He was pro-choice and now he is not. He is for gross taxes and now he is not. His use of the term "illegals" gets under my skin. Did anybody see his speech on this and/or the CNN Rep. You Tube debate? Anybody seriously voting for this guy? I have to admit, he kind of gives me the creeps, and I do not really understand why. I just think he is FAKE, FAKE, FAKE. I mean I think John Edwards is a FAKE, but compared to Mitt Romney, John Edwards looks quite presidential. The kicker of it all? He's Mass. Governor! I simply do not get it.
Thoughts? (PS--I am in the office alone today. I will be on here all day--PLEASE entertain me)

I'm sorry...The only thing I can add of mormons is my age-old anecdotal from about 7 years ago when some early 20-somethings (2 guys) stopped at my house right around football time on an early Sunday afternoon...They were on their "pilgrimage"...I guess they have to spread the word for a certain amount of time hoofin' it door to door. I offered them to come in and watch football. They declined. I offered that if they watched football, I would listen to them during commercial breaks so they could enjoy spreading the word. They declined. F*cking goody goodies.

LOL, I always feel bad for them during the summer when I see them dressed in suits in 90-degree weather walking/and or riding their bikes. Thanks for the reply though!

Are you a sports fan? There's usually a whole sh*tload of posters on the sister site...sports-boards.net
Unless you are Drulz. Then you can't go. But I don't think you are.
(If you don't understand this...Don't fret about it...It's not important.)
Speaking of, V for Vendetta was a decent flick...I enjoyed when the fat guy with the big mouth that reminds me of Glenn Beck ate it.

Oh, those dudes? They used to come by on their bikes to my apartment complex to try and convert folks. I have had them in before. They don't like coffee or beer :D.

V for Vendetta is a really good flick. Natalie Portman, hot even with a bald head.

V for Vendetta is awesome! I missed out seeing it in the theaters. Totally regret not seeing it on the Big Screen. I think the whole Natalie Portman threw me off. I get chills throughout the whole movie. It's a bit prophetic, don't you think? Sports...I follow a few teams out of habit (as in just check the scores to see how they are doing,) but not much of a sports fan, generally speaking.
Lol.

except when she was dressed as a little girl. It was a bit too uncanny for my taste. Women should have more T&A

Yeah, but a cool part in the movie. Revenge flicks are the best action films.

Yeah I never really got that part, why she told the priest.

I believe it was written as a graphic novel about the Thatcher Administration in GB during the 80s.

She was still a little uneasy with the murders, still fearful as the movie would put it.

It was a graphic novel. Maybe a critque of Thatcher but not necessarily based on her tenure. More of a 1984 thing, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_for_Vendetta

I guess. It was an odd part in the movie.

Yeah, you think that. You should watch Big Love on HBO. What did they say about Mormomism?

I probably know more than the average bear about the Mormon religion having lived in a Mormom dominant area for a while.
They do have some unusual beliefs that stray from traditional Christianity. One is that the family you have now will follow you into the afterlife...I believe they say you may even be able to expand your family while you are there, but not sure about that.
The believe Joseph Smith was an American prophet, and much of their beliefs is based on some gold tablets (?) he found somewhere in the southeast.. Missouri? Their Book of Mormon is a companion to the Bible and contains scripture.
Mormons, of course, used to believe Polygomy was ordered by God.
They do not believe in smoking, drinking, or even using caffeine.
They heavily tithe their members.
They are a very tight knit community and support their fellow members remarkably well.
Although I do not share many of their beliefs, most of the Mormons I have known are some of the best people I've ever met. They are clean living and honest. People like to make fun of them, but they'd make darn good neighbors.

Thanks for that. I have heard some say that they believe Jesus was an alien and that the Garden of Eden was actually in Missouri and not the Middle East Iraq.) Far cry from the mormoms depicted on Big Love! LOL

Not sure about that.
I did forget to mention they have secret rituals and undergarments. There is a hierarchy of power and also one of achievements that you have to master before you are allowed access to certain areas/rites of the temple.
We have a temple here. The general public was allowed to visit for an open house, but after that nada. And you have to be a Mormon "in good standing" to get in there now.

I was only able to watch about the first 5 minutes or so of that episode, Vegas. Then it stops.
I did get a chuckle here and there.
Divine intervention?

The devil is trying to stop you from seeing the truth. That's the only possible explanation.

Well, my computer does have space issues, which I hope to correct this weekend.
Wait, the Devil is in my computer? Meh, I've heard that before.
South Park is funny and is good at making fun of people, institutions, agencies, etc., for their foibles, from what I can make of it. I've never watched a full episode through.
I wonder if the makers of the series have any convictions or values they hold true?
