I was looking for opinions on it as well.

It obviously was a joke that he took too far, but I don't see why the Rainbow Coilition and Al Sharpton are calling for him to get fired when Sharpton basically got away with the same thing years ago. Very pot calling out the kettle on its blackness.

I kinda like Imus, but it was wrong. It will be up to the Rutgers girls to see if they forgive him, even though I am sure few of them know who he is.

The way I see it is why is it such a big deal when he says it but its not racist when a rapper calls women much worse? What about a country singer calling people red necks? We need to draw the line. I think its so easy for them to attack Imus because of who he is. I think his show will be watched more now then ever. Al Sharpton said he should be fired. Well AL is an idiot. I'm sure he never said anything objectionable...

That may be true, but does he have his own hand soap?

I think their is a problem with rappers and the language they use. There is a big difference between Imus saying it and rappers saying things though. Which is more destructive overall is a matter of opinion.

I disagree. I know there are things white people can't/shouldn't say to black people but the way I see it, why is it said at all? Differences between people should stop at the color of skin. It should not be ok for one race to say something and not acceptable for another. I know that will never happen but thats why I have no problem with what he said. Listening to Colin Cowherd this morning he said that Imus should be punished for watching womens basketball, not his remarks. While I laughed at what he said shouldn't Colin be in trouble now if we stick to the routine? Where does it stop?

Exactly what I was thinking. Imus was wrong in what he said, mainly because of the context.

If were a black man discussing lyrics rap music on MTV, no one would blink and eye. Wasn't the "Ho" term popularized by this music?

No. I hate double standards.

I agree with this statement.

It also seems very counterproductive in the fight against racism.

Exactly. If its racist for 1 race to say something it should be racist for anyone to say it. I know there are sayings that are cultural, but why is it not degrading for a person of the same race to call them something that is considered racist if said by a different race? I may seem ignorant, but I honestly don't understand why its considered ok.

what double standard?

I will use this as an example because it seems to be a common one. A black man calls another black man the n word and nothing happens. Everyone is ok with it. But a white man says it and he better get the hell out of dodge because its racist. Double standard. I don't go around calling people crackers, nor honestly do I find it offensive. I do however find the N word offensive no matter who is saying it.

I disagree. I call white people crackas all the time. Honkies, too. Ever watch Curb Your Enthusiasm? There's an episode where Larry David starts calling people his "Caucasian".

The comment is racist when it's one race saying it to denigrate another race. How, then, can it be racist when one race is calling the same race said name?

Am I racist if I call a white guy "cracker"? Or could it even be construed as racist?

How about if I call a black guy any number for names...it may not actually mean I'm racist, but it could certainly be construed as such.

Context is something that's forgotten.

A country song calls someone a redneck? Pot and kettle
A rap song uses the N word? Pot and kettle
I call a guy a cracker? Pot and kettle
I call a guy a nn...a nnnnnn...a nnnniiii...a "N" word? Pot and...kitchen sink.

It will be interesting to see whether his ratings will be better or worse after the suspension. I'm guessing they'll initially be better, but will drop after a few days to lower than they were before the whole incident.

Reports are out that he's going to get $20 million from CBS as a contract buyout. Then he'll be free to get another show and make even more money.
