TROY, Mich. — Police on Monday said they found the man who allegedly shot three people at a suburban Detroit office building earlier in the day.
One of the victims died on the way to the hospital.
Just before 1 p.m. EDT, Detroit police told WJBK that they located the suspect's vehicle on I-75 northbound near Saginaw. The car was stopped on the north side of Saginaw County following the chase. Police first spotted the car in Clio.
"It looks like we have found the vehicle and the suspect," said Troy police Lt. Gerry Scherlinck.
The vehicle police were searching for was found and a long gun was recovered. The man inside the car did not have identification and did not cooperate with police, Scherlinck said.
"He has been caught. He is in custody," said State Police Trooper Troy Bonadurer from the Flint post.
Scherlinck said the man in the car would be brought back to Troy. The Genesee County Sheriff's Department planned a 3 p.m. news conference.
Police would not detail the condition of the other two victims but a spokeswoman for Beaumont Hospital, Ilene Wolfe, said the two wounded were both men.
Scherlinck earlier told FOX News that after the shooting, the suspect likely escaped by car.
The suspect's name is Anthony LaCalamita and he was described by police as a 5 foot, 8 inch 38-year-old male weighing 180 pounds, with short black hair parted on the side, wearing a dark brown or blue sweater and navy pants.
Witnesses told Local FOX affiliate WJBK in Detroit there were sounds of gunfire around 10:30 a.m. Employees of the building told WJBK that the shooter was a former disgruntled employee who brought a rifle into the building. His picture was passed out to officers on the scene.
The suspect's car was described as a silver 2007 Ford Fusion with the license plate BEY 0843.
Police said they have secured the building and are still working on evacuating the remaining employees.
It's a "very dangerous, kind of volatile situation as we speak," Scherlinck told reporters.
Several emergency crews responded to the scene. Police, wearing bulletproof vests and with guns drawn, jogged into the building shortly after the shooting to search for the gunman. Other police were seen crouched behind their official vehicles.
The shooting apparently took place at G&C Accounting, located in one part of the building.
The 170,000-square-foot building houses a number of businesses, including law offices, a State Farm insurance office and a Wachovia Securities office. Police at first told workers to stay in their offices but a short time later evacuated the building.
An Information Builders employee on the third flood of the building told FOX News: "There's plenty of cops and we can see all the news stations and SWAT teams … we're just sort of waiting to hear what's going on and waiting to get out of here."
She said no announcement about the shooting had been made, but that they called 911 to find out what to do.
"They just said to lock the doors and stay put," she said.
The building is located about 15 miles north of Detroit.
