Modified: Wednesday, Sep. 28, 2011 It sounds like the plot from some reality TV show, but police say a man on a date accidentally shot himself Tuesday night inside a parking garage in the SouthPark area.
The shooting, ruled accidental, happened after the man and his date returned to their car after eating at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on Fairview Road. The man had a gun in his car, and police say it somehow went off.
NewsChannel 36, the Observer's news partner, said the man and woman were on a first date.
The man was treated at Carolinas Medical Center for a leg wound that police say was not life-threatening. The woman in the car was not injured.
Police say they have not determined how the gun went off.
