So-called margin debt, a broad measure of leverage, jumped 11% to $353 billion at NYSE in May, up from nearly $318 billion in April.
It's the hip thing to do!!! And you never have to pay it back!!!!!!!

You never have to pay it back as long as the market never goes down.
Margin debt jumping is one sign of a market top. The market is so good that nobody can afford to stay on the sidelines anymore. Bad breadth is the biggest indicator of a top, but we don't see that (yet). There's also put/call ratio.

Excuse me? I'm affording it quite nicely here on the sidelines...to the tune of 5 1/2 percent GUARANTEED and INSURED...
That should read "no babylonian whore can afford to stay on the sidelines, lest they melt into a puddle of puss and ooze because they missed the boat because everyone knows that if you miss this one, it's all over....forever" :rolleyes:
