Favoring the constitutional right to bear arms over others' concerns about gun safety, Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill making Arizona the third state allowing people to carry a concealed weapon without requiring a permit.

The measure takes effect 90 days after the current legislative session ends, which likely puts the effective date in July or August.

"I believe this legislation not only protects the Second Amendment rights of Arizona citizens, but restores those rights as well," Brewer, a Republican, said in a statement.

The article talks about "Arizona Citizens" and doesn't say anything about visitors. You'd better check out the rules before you walk around packing.

You always could anyway..............so long as the weapon was unconcealed.

Plus, the penalty for carrying a concealed weapon by a person with a clean record was not severe and rarely enforced.

Ooops, beat me to do it. I didnt scroll down.

My parents live in AZ and while i was there I only saw one person packing heat, but they told me it's not common, but also not rare. And some area's it's more common then others.

US as whole has more guns then many other countries with lower crime rates, why is that?

Other countries have overall higher crime rates than the US and don't have guns. Mexico is a good example.

In Mexico guns are illegal without a permit (that includes rifles). Of course, the law isn't too effective..........considering the thousands of cartel murders that are destroying the country.

So you're saying there are statistics that show both side of the arguments and going down this path will lead us nowhere?

As a person formerly enamored with anti-gun stat's, I learned that statistics are just statistics and can lead you to believe what you want.

Due to paranoia of Obama taking office gun sales and ammo rose in prior year. Crime rates also went down. Can you 100% say the two are related? Much of the buy up where from people who ALREADY had guns, did these people stop more crimes because they had more weapons?

When Clinton introduced the Brady bill, crime went down. Was it because of the brady bill? That counters your more guns equals less crime?

Then right has their survey from early 90's they cling to about how many crimes a day guns stop. Do we know that the only way it could've been stopped was a gun? Do we know for sure that a crime would've taken place? Could a stun gun have the same effect? Mace? a dog? Evidence show's people with dog's are burgalized less, as dogs bark and make noise when intruders come. Should we make dog ownership mandatory to stop home invasions?

I dont take offense to anyone who chose's to own a gun. I chose to not have a gun.

Statistic's also tell me most criminal act's arent random, wether it be rape, robbery, murder, property crimes, etc. More often then not, they're perputated by people you know. I dont know anyone I need a gun to defend myself with.

Mexico is very corrupt and I wouldnt think a good example for either side.

In that interview, the questions and the answers were written by the same person.

Stats are funny things. This http://works.bepress.com/john_donohue/9/ thinks that More Guns Less Crime is bunk. There are other theories, the Crack bubble bursting for example. Widening of the middle class. Saying If A then B, is way to simplistic an approach to a subject as nuanced as crime.

I don't really care about guns, own them don't own them, Hide 'em, whatever. One thing we do know is that very little actual crime is stopped by citizen's carrying guns.

Given I have examples going the otherway, what does it prove?

I dont think anyone can succesfully argue more guns or less gun's = more or less crime.
