The White House is sounding optimistic it can convince skeptical Senate Republicans to resurrect and pass an immigration bill that President Bush wants.
Press Secretary Tony Snow says the administration will "answer the doubters." Appearing this morning on the "Today" show on N-B-C, Snow says Bush is backing a "good, sound bill" and a lot of conservatives "will say O-K" once they get a chance to look at it.
The measure that legalizes up to 12 (m) million unlawful immigrants and tightens border security stalled last week amid Republican opposition.
Majority Leader Harry Reid says he'll take the measure off the shelf if Democrats are assured that more Republicans will back it.
