My fave Archie Bunker show was the one where he went thru the various people on the ballot. (I don't think they'd show that on tv today).

"See, ya got yer mick, yer spic, yer wop, yer dago," etc....

And in all honesty, that's about what one can expect to find on the ballot- everybody representing their own special interest group.

There's no way in hell you could get away with a show like "All In the Family" today. But it was a hell of a show, and is also probably responsible for the saddest scene in any sitcom ever.

In real life, Carroll O'Connor was an ultra-liberal.

And Rob Reiner, while liberal to some extent, was more of a moderate.

And Sally Stuthers leaned a bit to the right of the moderate scale.

They say you can play your opposite part better than you can play yourself because you can more easily point out the faults of your opposite.

On a similar note, many of the actors on the series MASH said that Larry Linville, who played Frank Burns, was one of the nicest and easist people to work with on the set.

And they say Alan Alda, who played Hawkeye Pierce, was somewhat of a "know it all" tyrant with the other actors.

I guess they played the roles of their opposites.

I missed Frank when he left the series though. He was indeed a key comedy element. Charles was just, OK at best. Nothing like the hot-lips/Frank Burns encounters.
